Chapin Teacher to Teach at Governor’s School – Mr. David Fisher, an 8^th grade math teacher at Chapin Middle School, has been chosen to join a team of middle and high school teachers who will pilot a summer program at the Governor’s School For Science and Mathematics in Hartsville, SC. Thanks to $275,000 in federally appropriated funds, the GSSM in Hartsville, SC is implementing a readiness program designed to prepare middle schoolers for entrance into GSSM and careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Mr. Fisher will join the summer team to develop and implement an inquiry-based program where students will design experiments with motion, velocity and force, collect and analyze data, and communicate results effectively in written reports. The program is designed to follow the students through five summers of enrichment, leading to enrollment in GSSM during junior year in high school and ending with admission to college.

Lexington’s Farmers Market Now Open – The Town of Lexington has opened a Farmers Market in the heart of downtown, at 116 E. Main St. The Market held a special kick-off May 21 and will operate every second and fourth Saturday from 9am – 1 pm, running from June – October. A variety of items will be sold including fruits and vegetables, plants, crafts, baked good, jams, cheeses, pottery, ice cream, milk, grits and more. The Town of Lexington Farmers Market is a Proud Member of the Farmers Market Coalition and Certified SC Program.
