Lake Murray Boat Club to Offer Free Safety Kits - The Fourth of July is a major holiday for South Carolina boaters and this Fourth they are expected to take to the state's waterways in large numbers. For many of these boaters, the annual Lake Murray firework display will mark the highlight of the weekend's festivities and is a highly anticipated annual tradition. However a simple oversight while boating during the Fourth of July can cause a fun-filled day to end tragically. For this reason, the Lake Murray Boat Club, a recreational boating company that offers its members the use of a variety of boats as an alternative to boat ownership, is offering a simple yet effective solution that promises to reduce the potential for accidents while navigating after dark. The solution is a safety boating kit that contains a glow light, a whistle, a Department of Natural Resources safety handbook, a discount coupon for West Marine and other boating gear. The kits will be distributed June 29 through July 4 between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm from the office or dock at the Lake Murray Boat Club located at the Lake Murray Marina.

Fourth of July Celebration to be Held Saturday - The Lake Murray 4th of July Celebration will be held this Saturday, July 2, with the July 4th Boat parade starting at noon. Enjoy the patriotic display as locals and visitors decorate their boats in ways that will leave you amazed. Viewable from the park sites at the Lake Murray Dam or by boat. It is free to be a part of the fun! Festivities will be followed by South Carolina's Largest Fireworks around 9:15 pm. The fireworks will be shown from two locations, Spence Island and Dreher Island.
