Lake Murray Country founding fathers honored – Large portraits of Charlie Higgins, owner of Holland’s Landing on the Newberry County shoreline of Lake Murray and the late Bobby Long of Silverstreet, will forever watch over the organization they founded 30 years ago for the specific purpose of developing and promoting economic growth of the Lake Murray Region. Ms. Miriam Atria, president/CEO of Capital City/Lake Murray Country, whom the two founding gathers hired shortly after their proposal was approved, unveiled their portraits before an audience of special guests, including former board members following a meal at the Historic Lorick Plantation House near the dam, headquarters of the organization. Ms. Atria said the two local businessmen “petitioned the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for funds to form an organization to promote tourism and recreational activities in the four counties surrounding Lake Murray.”

“Mr. Lake Murray” Tournament on September 24 – The Bass Federation of South Carolina will be holding the 2^nd Annual “Mr. Lake Murray” Bass Tournament at Dreher Island State Park on September 24. The tournament is open to all, and it is a team event so you can enter with a buddy. Early entries will receive lower boat numbers in the order received. The first place award will be $5,000. In addition to the weigh in, there will be raffles and prizes. Zorro Bait Co. is back as the Big Bass sponsor with $500 cash and merchandise award as well as many other fine sponsors that will be on hand to display their products and services.
