Bass Tournament October 13 - The monthly open bass tournament known as the "One-on-One" will be held Thursday Oct. 13, out of Dreher Island State Park on the store side. The cost of the tournament wis $20, with $5 of that fee going toward the Big Bass of the Day prize. "The number of places paid is dependend upon how many people participate," said David Larabee of the Lake Murray Senior Bass Club. "It's not a team contest, but rather an individual-versus-individual contest. Two people may fish in the same boat, but they must keep their catches separate." Lake Murray Association Hosts 'Law Enforcement Extravaganza' - The Lake Murray Association hosted a "Law Enforcement Extravaganza" September 27 at Lighthouse Marina. The event aimed to give lake users an opportunity to meet the heads of the five agencies charged with patrolling Lake Murray waters and shoreline.

District 5 Foundation Fundraiser October 13 - The District 5 Foundation for Excellence, an organization that raises funds to support projects at local schools, wants to help ensure disadvantaged students in Irmo and Chapin are getting the nourishment they need to do well in school. The group's latest project is the Backpack Program, a charity initiative which provides children of cash-strapped families with backpacks of food to take home on weekends. At least one in five children in Lexington and Richland counties lack enough food at times to maintain an active healthy lifestyle, according to the foundation. The foundation will host a silent auction on Thrusday, October 13 at 6 p.m. at the Saluda Shoals Park River Center. Tickets are $25 and include refreshments.
